In general, stress in organisms due to environmental conditions can be associated with the oxidative stress mechanism. In all biological systems, oxidative stress occurs by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) or damaging antioxidant defense systems. Biochemical and physiological damages caused by oxidative stress may vary depending on the severity, type and antioxidant enzyme activity of the stress. In recent years, heavy metals have been frequently used in different sectors such as mining, paint, plastics, pesticides and artificial fertilizers, and as a result, they can have toxic effects on the environment and non-target organisms. Energy metabolism plays an important role in coping with stress caused by heavy metals. There are many studies on the effects of heavy metals on metabolic activities in insects. In this study, oxidative stress in insects, the response mechanisms of insects to oxidative stress, and the effects of oxidative stress on insects were investigated.
