With the developing technology, drill types with many features have been developed for well drilling operations in the field of engineering required for oil and natural gas exploration and production activities. Among these drills, especially the three-cone standard (steel threaded) and insert (recessed thread) drills have gained an important place in both our country and the world's oil and natural gas sector. In this thesis study, the types of dysfunction or destruction that occur in the drill structures as a result of the well drilling activities of three-cone drills, depending on the drilling parameters, were analyzed and these types of dysfunction were classified. In literature studies, the classification of drill types in general, the factors affecting the drill progress speed in drilling, the progress speed- cost relationship and drill selection criteria according to formations are discussed. The drilling well activities, which differ from other studies, include the three-cone drills' standard (steel threaded) and insert (recessed gear) drill type, internal and external row teeth of the drills, wear areas, bearing condition, decrease in diameter, IADC code, formation and other details. A detailed analysis of the most common malfunction types in drills was made depending on the drilling parameters. For these analyses, numerical data of the specified parameters of 577 standard (steel threaded) and 1005 insert (recessed threaded) drills used in wells drilled in Turkey's oil and natural gas exploration and production basins were collected and the analysis and interpretations of their dysfunctional situations were discussed in graphical and tabular form. Thanks to the analyses, it will be beneficial to select the drill type according to the situation, taking into account the possible dysfunctions that may occur in standard (steel thread) or insert (recessed thread) drills depending on the specified parameters.
