Social life is full of ups and downs. As these ups and downs are experienced, people's psychological structure is affected in various ways. In order to eliminate the negativities that these effects on people may cause and to exhibit approved behaviors, some suggestions are presented in the Quran. Patience, contentment and gratitude are three important elements of these suggestions. These three concepts, which are like a tripod, play important roles in providing spiritual balance. For example, when faced with a financial difficulty, the factor of patience comes into play. In this way, the ability to be resistant and to struggle against difficulties is gained. In order to overcome this difficult process more easily, first of all, expenses are reduced to a minimum. Then, contentment is achieved by being content with the means at hand and these troubles are expected to pass. If these troubles are overcome and prosperity is achieved, the concept of gratitude comes into play. When acting with gratitude, the opportunities provided by wealth prevent turning to wrong behaviors. Thus, these three understandings help to prevent excesses in human behavior by providing spiritual and behavioral balance. There are important suggestions in the Quran on these issues. These suggestions help to reduce possible psychological problems that a person may experience, to provide inner peace, and to become aware of the blessings at hand. As a result, people can more easily overcome the difficulties of life by acting on this understanding; and they can also make the best use of the opportunities it provides.
