EXAMINATION OF THE LEVELS OF EXAM ANXIETY AND COGNITIVE DISTORTION RELATED TO ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ACCORDING TO SOME VARIABLES

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between 12th grade students' test anxiety and cognitive distortion levels related to academic achievement and whether these variables differ significantly according to some socio-demographic characteristics. The participants of the study consisted of 137 students studying in a province in the Eastern Anatolia Region. In the study, the Ayda Test Anxiety Scale (ASKÖ) developed by Başol (2017) and the Cognitive Distortions Scale of Academic Achievement (ABİBÇÖ) developed by Kaya (2018) were utilized. For the demographic information of the participants, the Personal Information Form created by the researcher was used. The data obtained were analyzed with SPSS 27. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between Test Anxiety and Cognitive Distortions Related to Academic Achievement and it was determined that there was a positive, highly significant relationship. It was also found that there were significant relationships between other sub-dimensions. As a result of the independent sample t-test conducted according to the gender variable, it was seen that there was a significant difference between women and men in all dimensions. It was determined that women had higher averages than men in every dimension. According to the results of the ANOVA test conducted according to the academic achievement perception of the students, significant differences were found in the sub-dimensions of ABIBÇÖ, Catastrophizing, Self-Value, External Attribution and in the sub-dimensions of ASKÖ’s and Cognitive Anxiety. According to the results of the ANOVA test conducted according to the duration of study, significant differences were found between the groups in the dimensions of Perfectionism, Test Anxiety Total Score and Family Environment.
