Urease is one of the major causes of diseases induced by Helicobacter pylori, allowing them to survive at low pH within the stomach and thus plays an important role in the pathogenesis of gastric and peptic ulcers as well as cancer. Considering the great importance of urease inhibitors, in this study piperazine derivatives (1-2) were designed and evaluated for their urease inhibitory activity. A structure activity relationship was established for all compounds based mainly on the substitution model on the phenyl ring. Molecular docking study was carried out to understand the binding interaction of the compounds in the active site of the enzyme.
