Özet:
(AI):
Shot peening is a commonly employed surface treatment method aimed at enhancing the mechanical properties of materials by producing compressive residual stresses on the surface and increasing fatigue resistance. This study presents a numerical investigation into the mechanics of single-shot impacts using an axisymmetric finite element model. The model incorporates material properties, shot diameter, and initial shot velocity to evaluate the surface characteristics of treated materials. The Johnson-Cook constitutive model was employed to simulate the elastoplastic behavior of target materials under high strain rates. The finite element analysis was validated against experimental and numerical data for three steel alloys: SAE 1070, AISI 2205, and AISI 4340, with deviations as low as 2.3% for dimple diameter and 0.75% for dimple depth. Key findings reveal that shot diameter and initial velocity significantly influence dimple dimensions, with shot diameter having a greater effect on dimple diameter, while both parameters similarly affect dimple depth. The model effectively balances computational efficiency and accuracy, offering a reliable alternative to experimental tests for predicting surface characteristics such as dimple diameter, depth, and distribution of residual stress. This study highlights the robustness of the proposed model and its potential for integration into research and development efforts with further modifications.
