ASSESSMENT OF THE CURRENT STATE OF MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISES IN ALBANIA AND FUTURE CHALLENGES

The wood processing industry and furniture manufacturing industry in Albania is undergoing significant transformations. To assist in this transformation, some of the main companies in the country have organized themselves and enrolled in WICA (Wood Industry Cluster of Albania). This cluster plays a key role in promoting collaboration among enterprises, strengthening production networks, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices. Participation in this association brings positive effects, such as increased competition, innovation, and easier access to international markets. To assess the current state of the industry and the challenges it faces, a survey was conducted among key stakeholders, including business owners, employees, and industry experts. This survey utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data from structured questionnaires with qualitative insights from interviews. The findings highlighted critical challenges such as the lack of adequate infrastructure, administrative barriers, and the need for skilled labor. This survey was conducted by the WICA and Faculty of Forestry Sciences representatives. Despite recent improvements, there is a high demand for a qualified workforce, which is essential to support high production standards and compete in global markets. To ensure sustainable development in the industry, it is necessary for enterprises to invest in new technologies and establish collaborative strategies with educational institutions and government agencies. This will help strengthen workforce capabilities and contribute to the sustainable growth of the manufacturing sector in Albania, enhancing benefits for all stakeholders involved.
