Tropinota (Epicometis) hirta (Poda, 1761) is a polyphagous pest species that has been found in Turkey, Europe, Mediterranean countries, the Middle East, and Balkan countries. It is known to cause damage to various pome, stone, and hard-shelled fruits, as well as numeorus cultivated plants, wild plants, and wheatgrasses. In Turkey, it particularly causes direct damage to the flowers of many fruit trees, hindering the fertilization process and significantly reducing fruit yield. Notably, in recent years, the damage to fruit trees has reached substantial levels. During the flowering period of fruit trees, Tropinota hirta adults are very active, as are bees and other insects that facilitate pollination. It is crucial to consider that spraying T. hirta adults during this period can harm both pollinator species and the plants themselves. Therefore, it is understood that chemical control measures against T. hirta adults should be avoided. Instead, using attractive blue traps, which exploit the insects’ color orientation, along with other alternative protection and control methods, is more beneficial and protective for the environment and other living organisms. This study aims to update the information on this species, which has increased in population and damage level, particularly in recent years, and to provide new contributions to the knowledge in this field.
