A Review on Virtual Reality Applications for Public Health

Virtual reality refers to a technology that offers a real or simulated computer-generated environment in which the user explores and manipulates 3D sensory environments and objects in real time. The user has a real-life experience in a virtual reality environment. Virtual reality is also used in many studies conducted in the field of public health. This study provides a review of the use of virtual reality in public health. Virtual reality has been applied to a variety of e-health interventions, such as health professions education, physical education, and rehabilitation. The effectiveness of virtual reality applications in improving health and education outcomes was examined. These studies reveal positive results regarding the acquisition of knowledge and cognitive skills. Using virtual reality in the field of healthcare provides many advantages such as improving educational opportunities, increasing the frequency of physical activity, improving patients' physical activity limitations and reducing anxiety.
