Traditional games continue to exist as a whole of repeated actions within the historical processes of culture, containing mythical stories. The myths created by societies through their ways of making sense of life and narrating it are transformed into actions, and in the subtexts of traditional games, symbolic traces of these narratives can be found. The structure of mythological traces in Turkish culture has been passed down from the past to the present through oral and then written sources, and when the subtexts of these sources are examined, the existence of mythical structures has been identified. In this context, one of the written sources is Divânu Lügati't-Türk, one of the earliest written sources of Turkish culture. In addition to the verbs related to games in Divânu Lügati't-Türk, one of the eleven games/sports mentioned is Müngüz Müngüz. The term Müngüz Müngüz etymologically means "horn" and, due to its reference to the horned sacred animals in Turkish mythology, it carries an important mythical structure. The ancient Turks created a deep-rooted animal sanctity by making sense of life and sanctifying certain animals during various stages of their existence. From the state system to religious beliefs, from essential life needs to entertainment, the place of sacred animals, especially horned animals and horns, in Turkish culture offers a rich mythological perspective. This study will discuss the importance of games mentioned in early written sources in terms of game culture. On the other hand, based on the Müngüz Müngüzgame, the role and significance of horned animals such as deer, goats, rams, and bulls in the context of animal sanctity in Turkish culture will be emphasized. At the same time, the study will examine the sacred animals in Turkish mythology and how these animals are reflected in traditional games. As a result, the importance of traditional games in Turkish culture and mythology will be demonstrated through the Müngüz Müngüz game, which is a concrete example of the sanctity of horned animals, and the mythological symbols in the subtexts of traditional games will be identified through various game examples. In conclusion, an evaluation of the mythological morphology of the game will be made, focusing on the functional aspects in the subtext of the game, as well as the necessity of its educational functionality. Furthermore, the game’s potential as a tool for cultural transmission will be discussed, and suggestions will be made.
