It is the most important cause of traffic accidents.The main causes of accidents associated with the driver element may be: excess speed, negligence, non-compliance with the rules, insomnia and alcoholic vehicle use.In this study, an alarm system based on image processing has been designed and implemented to detect sleeping drivers falling asleep.The system is monitoring the driver's eyes throughout the drive, with the help of an integrated camera in the built-in system, in real-time, identifying the sleeping state with the help of image processing techniques, and gives the necessary warning to wake the driver up if the driver is sleeping.The process of determining whether the eye is closed by processing in the image processing algorithms of the driver’s image taken and operated on the embedded system is completed in a total of 200 ms of time.This means that you can make this decision 5 times a second and is the best indicator that the system works in real time.If the driver’s eyes are detected closed in a certain number behind, it is decided that the driver is sleeping and the driver is warned by a sound alarm.In different light conditions, the success rate was 97% or higher.Thus, the driver using the system will be improved driving safety and prevent traffic accidents caused by sleep problems.
