The use of social media is a part of everyday life, especially among young people, and creates a major transformation in the ways of youth thinking, interaction and communication.This study was aimed at studying the relationship between youth's social media use and communication skills.The research, designed in identificative and cutting-edge type, was carried out in 2018 with the participation of 400 students studying at a faculty.As a data collection tool, the identifying information form, the social media dependency scale and the communication skills inventory scale have been used.The average age of the young people involved in the study is 21,01±1,86 and 73,8% are female.94.5 per cent of young people used social media, 58.5 per cent spent 1-4 hours a day on social media, and 39.7 per cent used social media to track the current events.In the study, the social media dependency scale was found to be the total score average of 88,53±26,64, the communication skills scale of the total score average of 116,47±12,38.It has been determined that there is a reverse/negative and low-level relationship between social media addiction and communication skills (r= -0,09 p=0.071).As a result, it can be said that the vast majority of young people actively use social media and that social media addiction affects their communication skills negatively.Planning and implementation of educational and consulting programs on the subject will raise awareness among young people.
