Necrân, Arap Yarımadasının güney kesiminde ve Yemen'in kuzeyinde yer alan tarihî antik şehrin adıdır. Kuruluşu milattan öncesine dayanan şehir, günümüzde Suudi Arabistan sınırları içerisinde kalır. Son zamanlarda olduğu kadar İslâm'dan önce de ticaret, tarım ve üretimde kat ettiği ilerlemelerle adından söz ettiren ve dinî mekânlarıyla insanların dikkatini çeken bir yerdir. Burasını önemli hale getiren faktörlerin başında ticaret gelir. Yemen'in dağlarında yetişen Lübân ağacından elde edilen kokunun kuzey bölgelerdeki Mısır, Roma ve Sâsanî devletlerine ihraç edildiği ve dünya ticaretinde hatırı sayılır bir yer edindiği bilinmektedir. Bir dönem Arap ticaretinin simgesi haline dönüşen koku, ticaret yollarının güzergâhını belirlediği gibi birçok şehri içerisine alan Arap ticaret hattının Buhur Yolu olarak adlandırılmasına sebebiyet vermişti. Yol üzerindeki şehirlerden birisi ise Necrân'dı. Necrân'ı ticarî bir kavşak haline getiren bu yol, şehrin iç ve dış ticareti canlandırdı. Ticaretle bağlantılı olarak üretim ve tarım da gelişti. Tüccarların satmakla övündüğü deri üretimi ve fiyatı pahalı olan dokuma ürünleri Necrân ile bilinmeye başladı. Ekonominin gelişmesine paralel olarak Necrân'daki dinî mekânların imarı ve farklı dinî inançların yayılması hızlandı. Kâbe'ye alternatif olsun diye deriden imal edilmiş büyük bir kubbeden ibaret Kâbetü Necrân, Necrân şehrine dinî liderlik vasfı kattı. Bu yüzden Necrân, dokunulması yasak olan dört şehirden birisi (Mekke, Medine, Kudüs ve Necrân) algısı oluştu. Putperest inancın yanında Hıristiyanlık da şehre hâkim olan kabileler arasında yayıldı. Dinî inançtaki çoğulcu yapı birçok tarihî hadisenin de sebebi oldu. İşte bu tebliğde Arap Yarımadasında yer alan Necrân şehrini önemli hale getiren faktörler açıklanarak şehrin döneme olan etkisi tespit edilmeye çalışacaktır. Böylelikle Câhiliye dönemine damgasını vuran bir şehrin tarihi ve siyasî olaylara olan etkisi anlaşılmaya gayret edilecektir.
