Özet:
(AI):
Russia's Central Asia Policy has been shaped by its geopolitical and geo-economic competition with the US in the mid-2000s to late 2010s. As US interest waned, Russia was able to maintain its position. In the 2010s, China emerged as a geo-economic rival to Russia. In the 2020s, Turkey seeks to play a similar role. Russia's security concerns have been heightened by the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, leading to increased cooperation with Central Asian countries in security and defense. Russia's future policy in the region may have a security-focused approach. The foundation of Russia's Central Asia policy will be to strengthen ties with regional countries to maintain internal stability and counter security threats originating from Afghanistan. Countries like Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and possibly Turkmenistan may move closer to Russia. Regional countries may also increase cooperation among themselves against external threats. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are becoming more prominent in ensuring stability in the region. While common external threats have historically brought Russia and regional countries together, these countries may also seek closer ties with actors outside of Russia to counter external threats. For example, Tajikistan may approach Iran, Turkey's military-technical relations with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan may increase, and Uzbekistan may intensify its cooperation with the US. China may also make initiatives to meet some of the region's needs. Russia has the legal infrastructure to engage in such partnerships.
