Özet Okulların amaçlarının gerçekleştirilmesinde birinci derecede okul yöneticileri sorumludur. Bu bağlamda, okul yöneticilerinin okullarını etkili bir şekilde yönetebilmeleri için bazı bilgi ve becerilere sahip olmaları gerekmektedir. Nitelikli toplumların oluşmasında en büyük paya sahip olan eğitim örgütlerinin başında bulunan yöneticilerin niteliğinin arttırılması eğitim yöneticisi yetiştirme politikalarının gözden geçirilmesi ile yakından ilişkilidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, eğitim yöneticiliği alanında başarılı uygulamalara sahip olan ülkelerin yönetici seçme ve yetiştirme sistemlerinin incelenip ülkemiz şartlarına uygun, bilimsel ve sürdürülebilir bir "okul yöneticisi seçme ve yetiştirme model önerisi" geliştirmektir. Bu bağlamda, alanyazın incelenerek yöneticilik ve yönetici özellikleri ortaya konmuş, ülkemizdeki yönetici yetiştirmenin tarihçesi ve mevcut durumu analiz edilmiştir. ABD, İngiltere, Fransa, Almanya ve Finlandiya gibi eğitim yöneticiliği alanında başarılı ülkelerin yönetici seçme ve yetiştirme süreçleri incelenmiş ve ülkemize özgü, bilimsel temellere dayanan uygulanabilir bir yönetici seçme ve yetiştirme modeli önerilmiştir.
