Gazâlî'nin tam adı Ebû Hâmid Muhammed b. Muhammed b. Muhammed b. Ahmed el-Gazzâlî et-Tûsî (ö. 505/1111)'dir. Kaynaklardan nakledildiğine göre Gazâlî kuvvetli bir hafızaya ve üstün bir zekaya sahiptir. Bundan dolayı hadis, akaid, felsefe, tasavvuf ve ahlak, mantık gibi pek çok ilim alanı hakkında otorite sahibi çok yönlü bir alimdir. Gazâlî'nin ilim dünyasına en önemli katkısı kuşkusuz Kuran ve Sünnet'e dayalı olan ahlak anlayışıdır. Gazâlî ahlak anlayışına dair görüşlerinde kendisinden önce var olan ahlak ilmi literatürlerinden faydalanmıştır. Bu durum Gazâlî'yi ahlak ilminde aşılamayacak bir konuma getirmiştir. Gazâlî ahlaka dair konuları derinlemesine inceleyerek ahlak ve eğitimin birbirleriyle sıkı bir ilişki içerisinde olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Gazâlî'nin ahlaki eğitim anlayışına dair müstakil bir eseri olmamakla birlikte yazmış olduğu eserler arasından İhyâu Ulûmi'd-Dîn adlı eserinde çocukların ahlaki eğitimi hakkında bilgilere de yer vererek kapsamlı olarak ahlak konularına değinmiştir. İhyâu Ulûmi'd-Dîn'nin yanı sıra Eyyühe'l-Veled adlı eserinde de çocukların ahlaki eğitiminin nasıl olacağına, çocukların eğitiminde önemli rol oynayan ideal anne ve babanın nasıl olması gerektiğine dair bilgiler de yer almaktadır. Çalışmamız Gazâlî'nin eserlerinde yer alan metinlerden hareketle çocuk terbiyesi ile ilgili kısımlardan çıkarımlarda bulunularak, çocuklukta ahlaki eğitimin nasıl yapıldığını, nelere dikkat edilmesi gerektiğini ve çocukların eğitiminde anne ve babanın rolünün ne olduğunu ve ideal anne ve babanın nasıl olması gerektiğini ortaya koymayı amaçlamıştır.
