NEGATIVE ATTITUDES OF NURSING DEPARTMENT STUDENTS TOWARDS IMMIGRANTS AND INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION ANXIETY: A UNİVERSITY EXAMPLE
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between nursing students' negative attitudes towards immigrants and intercultural communication anxiety. The descriptivecross-sectional study was conducted in March 2024 with 168 students studying at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing. Data were collected with a personal information form, the Negative Attitudes Towards Immigrants Scale (GYOTO) and the Intercultural Communication Anxiety Scale (ICCS). Independent groups t test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation test were used to analyze the data. Students participating in the study; 81% of the mare between the ages of 18-22, 76.2% are women, 38.7% are 4th yearstudents, 79.2% live in dormitories, 67.9% choose the nursing department willingly, 85.7% do not have friends from another culture. It was determined that 54.2% of them wanted to be together with individuals from other cultures, 94% voluntarily participated in studies related to immigrants, and 49% occasionally communicated with individuals.
