INVESTIGATION OF INSTALLATION EXAMPLES CREATED USING 'BAMBOO', A VEGETATIVE BUILDING MATERIAL
Nowadays, with the increase in environmental problems, the use of environmentally friendly materials is becoming increasingly important. Bamboo, which is considered the symbol of honesty, longevity and friendship, especially in the Far East countries where it grows; The use of sustainable and renewable materials in buildings and designs is increasing day by day. The global climate crisis and the depletion of resources are an important problem; In a period when the natural balance of the world is threatened, bamboo emerges as a material that makes a significant contribution to environmental and economic sustainability by using energy less and efficiently at every stage of the building-life cycle. In this context, bamboo has been recognized as a known sustainable, renewable resource and has become an increasingly researched material. Along with its use in different scales in the field of architecture, its use is also seen in the art of installation, where different disciplines interact with each other. Installation art, which is referred to as "Installation Art" in our language, is defined as the works that the artists produce for a short time or permanently and generally designed specifically for the place, and includes the presence of the audience in the meaning of the artwork. While creating works of art, sensory features such as sound, texture and color are used together. Thus, three-dimensional products emerge and interaction is provided with many different disciplines such as architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, and psychology. Artists do not prioritize only architecture or aesthetics in these works. Social, emotional or environmental issues; It is also aimed to give a message based on many concepts such as current events, ecological problems, period conditions, climate crisis, events that affect humanity positively and negatively. In this context, the use of bamboo in installation works is extremely appropriate in order to draw attention to sustainable resources and to support the use of energy-efficient materials. In addition to being an aesthetic element on their own, plants can be processed with modern technologies and used as raw materials. In this sense, the use of bamboo as a building material can be seen as an important development for the use of plant-based raw materials. It is an environmental approach to prefer low-energy materials in buildings, provided that they do not compromise their durability and other performances. With this work, it is aimed to ensure the widespread use of this material and to guide new studies with the increasing number of installation works made of bamboo, which can be used as a structural element as well as providing visual appeal. In this work, installation samples using bamboo material are discussed as a subject.
