KENT MEYDANLARINDA SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİR VE YENİLİKÇİ KENT MOBİLYALARININ ROLÜ: ELAZIĞ 15 TEMMUZ DEMOKRASİ MEYDANI ÖRNEĞİ

Kent meydanları, şehirlerdeki sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik etkileşimlerin merkezi olan, halkın toplandığı kamusal alanlardır. Bu alanlar, sadece ulaşılabilir ve güvenli bir toplanma noktası olmanın ötesinde, şehrin kimliğini yansıtan ve yaşam kalitesini artıran önemli unsurlar barındırmaktadır. Kent mobilyaları, bu kamusal alanların işlevselliğini ve estetiğini şekillendiren temel elemanlardır. Banklar, çöp kutuları, aydınlatma direkleri gibi unsurlar, insanların bir meydanda nasıl etkileşimde bulunacaklarını ve alanın nasıl kullanılacağını doğrudan etkilemektedir. Ancak, kent mobilyalarının yalnızca estetik ve işlevsel değil, aynı zamanda sürdürülebilir ve yenilikçi bir şekilde tasarlanması, modern şehirlerin çevresel, ekonomik ve sosyal ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak açısından giderek daha önemli hale gelmektedir. Çevre dostu malzemeler kullanılarak üretilen sürdürülebilir kent mobilyaları, atıkları en aza indirerek şehirlerin çevresel etkilerini azaltmayı amaçlamaktadır. Aynı zamanda, yerel halkın yaşam kalitesini artıran estetik, fonksiyonel ve ekonomik çözümler sunmaktadır. Yenilikçi tasarımlar, bu mobilyaların teknolojiyle entegrasyonunu sağlayarak, kullanıcı deneyimini iyileştirirken çevresel sürdürülebilirlik hedeflerine de ulaşılmasını mümkün kılar. Örneğin, güneş enerjisiyle çalışan banklar veya akıllı aydınlatma sistemleri, hem enerji tasarrufu sağlamakta hem de kentsel yaşamı modernize etmektedir. Elazığ’daki 15 Temmuz Demokrasi Meydanı, şehrin sosyal ve kültürel yaşamında merkezi bir role sahip önemli bir kamusal alanıdır. Bu meydan, ziyaretçilerin ve yerel halkın günlük yaşamlarını sürdürdüğü bir alan olarak, kent mobilyalarının etkilerinin gözlemlenebileceği ideal bir örnek teşkil etmektedir. Bu çalışma, 15 Temmuz Demokrasi Meydanı’ndaki kent mobilyalarını sürdürülebilirlik ve yenilikçilik perspektifinden incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Meydandaki mobilyalar, geri dönüştürülebilir malzemelerin kullanımı, enerji tasarrufu sağlayan teknolojilerin entegrasyonu ve kullanıcı dostu tasarım ilkeleri doğrultusunda değerlendirilmiştir. Meydandaki kent mobilyaları, kullanıcıların oturması, dinlenmesi, etkileşimde bulunması ve alanı güvenli bir şekilde kullanabilmesi için işlevsel olarak tasarlanmış olsa da, sürdürülebilirlik ve yenilikçilik bağlamında bazı eksiklikler içermektedir. Çalışma, bu mobilyaların estetik, işlevsellik ve çevresel sürdürülebilirlik açısından nasıl iyileştirilebileceğini incelemektedir. Ayrıca, sürdürülebilir tasarım ilkelerine uygun kent mobilyalarının, şehirlerin çevresel ve sosyal hedeflerine ulaşmasına önemli katkılar sağlayabileceği de vurgulanmaktadır. Sonuç olarak, kent mobilyalarının sadece estetik ve fonksiyonel değil, aynı zamanda sürdürülebilir ve yenilikçi bir perspektiften tasarlanması, şehirlerin çevresel ve sosyal hedeflerine ulaşılmasına katkı sağlayacak ve halkın yaşam kalitesini artıracaktır. Elazığ 15 Temmuz Demokrasi Meydanı’ndaki kent mobilyalarının bu bağlamda yeniden tasarlanması, hem yerel hem de ulusal düzeyde örnek teşkil edebilecek bir model oluşturacaktır. Bu çalışma, sürdürülebilirlik ve yenilikçilik ilkelerini benimseyerek kent mobilyalarının nasıl daha verimli ve etkili hale getirilebileceğini göstermektedir.

City squares are public spaces that serve as focal points for social, cultural, and economic interactions within urban contexts. Such areas serve not only as accessible and secure gathering points, but also as locations that reflect the identity of the city and enhance the quality of life. The urban furniture that constitutes these basic elements plays a pivotal role in shaping the functionality and aesthetics of these public spaces. Elements such as benches, rubbish bins and lighting poles directly influence how people interact in a square and how the space is used. However, the design of urban furniture must evolve to encompass not only aesthetic and functional considerations, but also sustainability and innovation, in order to meet the environmental, economic and social needs of modern cities. The production of sustainable urban furniture utilising environmentally friendly materials is an endeavour that seeks to diminish the environmental impact of cities by reducing waste. Concurrently, it provides aesthetic, functional and economic solutions that enhance the quality of life for local residents. The incorporation of innovative designs enables the realisation of environmental sustainability objectives while simultaneously enhancing the user experience through the integration of technology with the furniture. To illustrate, the implementation of solar-powered benches or intelligent lighting systems serves to conserve energy while simultaneously modernising the urban environment. 15 July Democracy Square in Elazığ represents a significant public space, occupying a central position within the social and cultural fabric of the city. As a location where both visitors and local residents engage in their daily activities, this square serves as an exemplary case study for examining the impact of urban furniture. The objective of this study is to examine the urban furniture in 15 July Democracy Square from the perspective of sustainability and innovation. The evaluation of the furniture in the square was conducted in accordance with the utilisation of recyclable materials, integration of energysaving technologies and adherence to user-friendly design principles. While the urban furniture in the square is designed with the functional intention of providing seating, rest areas, interaction opportunities and a safe environment for users, it is nevertheless deficient in terms of sustainability and innovation. The study examines potential avenues for enhancement of these furnishings in terms of aesthetic appeal, functionality, and environmental sustainability. Furthermore, it is emphasised that urban furniture designed in accordance with sustainable design principles can make a significant contribution to the achievement of environmental and social goals at the city level. Consequently, the design of urban furniture must consider not only aesthetic and functional aspects, but also the environmental and social goals of cities and the quality of life of the people who inhabit them. The redesign of urban furniture in Elazığ 15 July Democracy Square will, in this context, establish a model that can serve as a precedent at both the local and national levels. This study demonstrates how urban furniture can be optimised through the integration of sustainability and innovation principles.
