ELAEAGNUS ANGUSTIFOLIA L. IN CONTEMPORARY SCIENCE: FINDINGS FROM A SCIENTOMETRIC ANALYSIS

Elaeagnus angustifolia L., also known as Russian olive, is a species with diverse traditional and modern applications, widely recognised for its beneficial properties across various scientific fields. In the context of a growing scientific literature, this study provides a comprehensive scientometric analysis of the 388 publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection concerning this plant. The research employs VOSviewer software to identify key research trends, academic collaboration networks, and citation impact. The study examines the temporal dynamics of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. research, highlighting periods of increased academic interest and correlating them with domain-specific innovations. Publication types (articles, reviews, book chapters) are analysed, offering insights into academic dissemination preferences. The study also identifies institutional affiliations and countries most active in research, revealing global centres of expertise and collaboration. By analysing co-authorship networks, the study maps the researchers involved, illustrating international collaborations and their contributions to advancing knowledge. Furthermore, the most cited works are identified, along with the journals and research areas exerting the greatest influence. Visualisations generated using VOSviewer highlight keyword co-occurrences and emerging research themes, providing a clear picture of current and future directions in Elaeagnus angustifolia L. studies. The findings underscore the strategic importance of interdisciplinary research on this plant, demonstrating its contributions to fields such as pharmacology, ecology, and food sciences. Additionally, the analysis establishes a robust foundation for identifying knowledge gaps and guiding future research efforts. This study offers a valuable contribution to understanding the role of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. in contemporary science and provides researchers and policymakers with essential information to strengthen research efforts and harness the potential of this species.
