Özet Tarihî seyir içerisinde geleneksel Türk okçuluğunun sosyo-kültürel yansıması birçok alanda kendini göstermiştir. Tarihî metinlerin birçoğunda, çeşitli dinî kaynaklarda, atasözleri ve deyimlerde, halk kültüründe, astrolojide, edebiyatımızda özellikle klasik Türk şiirindegeleneksel Türk okçuluğunun izlerini görmekteyiz. İskitler/Sakalar ve Avrupa Hunlarında görülen ok ve yay kullanımı doğumdan mezara kadar bir ritüel ve savaş aleti olarak yaşamaktadır. İskit mezarlarında ortaya çıkan ok vekompozit yay kalıntıları konu açısından dikkate değerdir. Hunlarda oka ve yaya verilen değerle birlikte Metehan'ın Türk terminolojisine kazandırdığı "ötkün ok" tarihin derinliklerinde iz ve ses bırakmıştır. Okçuluk bir savaş aleti olmakla birlikte hem spor hem de eğlence unsuru olarak da kullanılmıştır. Geleneksel Türk okçuluğunda da bu üç unsuru görmekteyiz. Ayrıca okçuluğun dinî boyutu da vardır. Hz. Peygamberin ok ve yayla ilgili buyurduğu birçok hadis mevcuttur. İslamî açıdan değerlendirildiğinde okçuların pîri olarak Sa'd bin EbiVakkaskabul edilmektedir. Sa'd bin EbiVakkas,katıldığı UhudSavaşı'nda ok atarken Hz. Peygamber'in, "At ey Sa'd, anam babam sana feda olsun" diyerek teşvik ettiği rivayet edilmektedir. Tarihî, sosyal ve dinî hayatta yaygın olarak ok ve yayın Türklerin elinde ayrı bir değer kazandığı göz ardı edilemez. Türk içtimaî hayatında ayrı bir değer kazanan ok ve yayla ilgili birçok eser yazılmış ve bu eserlerde kullanılan bazı kelimeler, geleneksel Türk okçuluğu açısından Türk terminolojisini oluşturmuştur. Gerek çeviri eserlerde gerekse telif eserlerde karşımıza çıkan bu kelimelerden bir tanesi de "yağmur oku"dur. Günümüzde yeniden hayat bulan geleneksel Türk okçuluğu açısından "yağmur oku" açıklanmaya muhtaç bir terimdir. Yazılan bazı eserlerde yağmur oku, kavram-çağrışım" kapsamında açıklanarak yanlış tanımlamalar yapılmıştır. Klasik Türk şiirinde de "tîr-i bârân" olarak yer alan yağmur okununçeşitli yazma eserlerden hareketle kavram açıklamasının yapılması da bu bildirinin amaçlarından biridir.
