Methane is a flammable gas placed especially in coal mines at various levels. The critical combination of methane and oxygen, firedamp triggers a dangerous explosion. Making a reliable risk analysis for an underground mine including explosion potential has crucial importance for engineers and decision makers. Probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) framework is at the core of combined risk-based engineering and use of this methodology in critical areas has been gained importance. In the present study, a fault tree-based probabilistic risk assessment is formulated for underground coal mine including firedamp. Based on the technical parameters and probability theory, a risk algorithm which describes firedamp explosion is constructed.
