REASONING WHILE BELIEVING: MENTAL AND NARRATIVE DIMENSIONS OF KNOWING GOD
Allah, the Creator of the universe and the Provider for mankind, desires that His servants recognize, love, and obey Him. To have faith in Allah, one must first know Him by His names and attributes. This issue has been considered the fundamental basis of belief by scholars of Islamic theological history. The Quran explicitly provides information about the existence and unity of Allah, inviting people of reason to contemplate and deduce. In this context, to know Allah, one must read the Book of the Universe, the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the Quran together. There is not one or two paths leading us to Allah, but rather as many paths as there are creatures. In everything, there are proofs of Allah's existence and unity, and all of them mention Allah. When a person knows their self, they can also know their Lord. Wherever they look, they will see the truth and the reality. It should not be forgotten that knowing and recognizing Allah is only possible in the way that He has introduced Himself. The essence of Allah is a being that is far above human comprehension, beyond the reach of reason, and imperceptible to the senses. One way to know Allah is to know His attributes by looking at their manifestations in the universe. It is important to understand that it is not Allah's essence but His attributes that can be known. Throughout history, no nation has ever been found to live without belief or religion; whether celestial or earthly, they have all adhered to a religion. The human nature is innately inclined towards faith, and thus, humans are equipped to believe in and obey religious commandments. In fact, the most distinguishing feature of humans, setting them apart from other creatures, is their ability to reason and believe. Humans are the noblest of creations. For this reason, humans are not without responsibilities; they will be held accountable for their actions, and those who deny [the truth] will face severe punishment.
