Arthur Hearerson: The Place Of The Marriage
In the daily language of speech, the concepts of place and place are often mixed. In architectural literature, these two concepts are separated by their philosophical meanings and forms of experience. In heidegger’s terminology, the concept of space is a form of existence beyond the state of physical existence. The place concept, subjectly experienced and varied from person to person, contains many historical, cultural, social, perceptive components. In today’s world, called supernaturity, it is found on a more sliding ground and its relationship with its roots is attempted to be re-expressed with the concept of ‘no-terrest’.The no-site concept revealed by augê is used to define the unapplied places such as shopping center, terminal, airport. It seems more difficult to establish human relationships and to build memories in these places that spend time and speed in the course of the time to be served. In addition, these spaces, with their designs, are often applicable everywhere and do not cause contextual concerns. The change of the form of the relationship established with the place, the fact that the architectural product does not belong to a time and a geographical place, is a state that is more widely observed in the architectural discipline, modernism and later. The architectural groups include different opinions and practices on the subject. In this study, which aims to focus especially on modernism and post-modernism, the structures of Canadian modernist architect Arthur Erickson were addressed in the framework of the established relationship with the land.As a person born and grew up in a multicultural country like Canada, Erickson says that he is interested in the change, intercultural interaction and diversity that humanity has experienced in history, and that his architecture has evolved in this line. While erickson depicts his work with the concepts of universality and multiculturality, he also puts historicity and context in the forefront. In the selection of the structures, the traces of these concepts have also been sought; without observing a functional distinction, various examples of private and public uses have been placed.
