Fatih Kerimi, a famous representative of Tatar literature, journalist and publisher, in 1899, at the invitation Shakir Remiev, who managed gold mines in Orenburg, went on a four-month journey, including countries such as Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Austria, Serbia, Bulgaria and Turkey. He published the impressions received during this trip in 1902 in St. Petersburg under the title “Travel to Europe.” Amazed by the progress of the West in the fields of science, education, culture and technology, describes what he saw in France in this work in the following sections: “Fourteen days in Paris”, “Sheikh Abu Nizare”, “Departure from Paris” and “Three days in Nice.” The author's impressions of France are formed from what he saw and experienced in the cities of Paris and Nice. First of all, he recalls the achievements and famous figures of France who left their mark on world civilization. He then expresses his admiration for Paris and describes visiting such famous places that have become the symbol of Paris: Capucines, Italiens and Sebastopol boulevards, Champs Elysees, Montmartre and Saint-Denis streets, the Eiffel Tower, the palaces of Versailles, the Louvre, Luxembourg, the Palace of the Invalids, the Arc de Triomphe, the Cluny museum, the Sainte-Chapelle, the Church of Sainte- MarieMadeleine, the Bologna forest and The Tuileries Garden. In addition to cultural excursions, the Sorbonne University, the College of the French Language and the Institute of the French Language are examined through the eyes of a Tatar Muslim intellectual. French publishing houses, libraries, the opera house, literary societies, coffee houses and shops are also discussed in an interesting way by Fatih Kerimi. Purchasing technological products needed for Shakir Remiev’s mines, visiting the School of Mining Engineering on the Boulevard Saint-Michel and visiting the Museum of Industry and Mechanical Engineering are also some of the important reasons for their stay in Paris. The city of Nice attracts the author’s attention primarily for its beautiful nature and warm climate. Fatih Kerimi as an enlightened traveler, explaining the characteristics of the French nation, the religion they follow, the social and cultural life they live, emphasizes both the positive and negative aspects of all this. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Kazan Tatars, through the impressions of Fatih Kerimi, for the first time had the opportunity to become better acquainted with French society, economy, culture and art.
