The Better Life Index (BLI) is designed to offer a comprehensive measure of well-being across countries by considering various dimensions beyond economic performance. In other words, this index aims to compare countries not only according to their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) but also to their well-being indicators. The BLI has a multidimensional approach and evaluates eleven dimensions that reflect a holistic view of well-being across countries. These dimensions are income and wealth, housing, health, work and job quality, environmental quality, knowledge and skills, subjective well-being, civic engagement, safety, work-life balance and social connections. This study aims to make a comparative assessment of the subjective well-being and health status of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries and Türkiye within the scope of BLI. Health is one of the most critical determinants of individuals’ living conditions and their well-being, while subjective well-being encompasses positive mental status and individuals’ perceptions of and experiences with their lives. The health dimension contains the data of two categories, which are life expectancy and self-reported health. The subjective well-being dimension includes the data of life satisfaction. This research also aims to highlight the disparities in these dimensions between Türkiye and other OECD countries, evaluate the basic socioeconomic and structural factors affecting this performance, and provide applicable policy recommendations to improve Türkiye’s well-being and health outcomes.
