Biological remediation, or bioremediation, is an environmentally sustainable process that uses microorganisms and plants to degrade, transform, or remove contaminants from wastewater, including sewage. The treatment of sewage using biological processes plays a crucial role in maintaining environmental health, reducing pollution, and promoting ecosystem balance. This article reviews the various biological methods used for sewage treatment, including microbial degradation, constructed wetlands, phytoremediation, and biofilms. By improving wastewater quality, biological remediation enhances water reuse potential and minimizes harmful environmental impacts. The study also discusses challenges and prospects in bioremediation technology, emphasizing the need for innovation and integration with existing sewage treatment systems.
