Quercetin, a flavonoid found in many fruits and vegetables, exhibits a broad spectrum of biological activities, including antimicrobial properties. This study investigates the inhibition of DNA gyrase, a critical bacterial enzyme responsible for DNA supercoiling, by quercetin. Through a combination of enzymatic assays, molecular docking, and microbiological studies, we demonstrate that quercetin effectively inhibits DNA gyrase activity, leading to significant antimicrobial effects. Our findings suggest that quercetin could be a potential candidate for the development of new antibacterial agents targeting DNA gyrase.
