KHORASAN IN THE POEMS OF NIZAMI-I GANJAVI

The historical region of Khorasan consists of cities such as Balkh, Bukhara, Ghaznavid, Herat, Khujand, Merv, Nishapur, Samarkand and Tirmiz. The Khorasan region of is the geography of cities center of civilization, literature and mysticism, politics and commerce, poets and poem throughout the history. The Khorasan region has been the geographical location for the development of the administrative functioning of the Turkish states such as Ghazni and Seljuk and the formation of their traditions. In this regard, Khorasan is important in terms of Turkish civilization, culture, history and tradition. Today, there are states such as Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on the territory of this region and as neighbors. These states are countries that have common ground in terms of civilization, culture, history, folklore, Sufi thought and many others. In this view, the word Khorasan and its region have strategic importance in many ways. Nizami-i Ganjavi (1151-1214) is one of the greatest poets of Turkish origin whose works are in Persian, and who was raised during the Seljuk period. It is deduced from the masnavi of Nizami-i Ganjavi that: Nizami-i Ganjavi has a good knowledge of history, geography and mythology. In addition, Seljuk Sultans and Atabeks are mentioned many times in the masnevis of Nizami-i Ganjavi and praises are often made to them. In this study, information about the Khorasan region, which is an important historical and geographical place for the Seljuks, will be given through the poems of Nizami-i Ganjavi, one of the poets of the Seljuk period. In the study, a brief information about Nizami-i Ganjavi and Khorasan will be given first. Later, some couplets in which the words of Khorasan are mentioned in the poems of Nizami-i Ganjavi in his work called Hamse will be identified. These couplets will be presented in Persian, and also Turkish translations. In addition, explanations will be made about some of the people and place names in the couplets. The purpose of this study is to remind today’s researchers of the Khorasan region and some cities that are important for the Seljuks through the poems of Nizami-i Ganjavi, who lived during the Seljuk period
