Excavations in the building complex known as Balatlar Church, located in the city center of Sinop, have been chaired by Prof. Dr. Gülgün Köroğlu since 2010. The building remains of the Balatlar Church are an imperial bath from the Late Roman Period and were used for different purposes such as churches, monasteries and cemetery areas from the 2nd-3rd century when it was built to the first quarter of the 20th century. The city of Sinop, which has been ruled by different civilizations throughout history, was conquered by the Seljuks in 1084, and the first Turkish period was dominated, and the city changed hands many times between the Byzantines and the Turks. The Balatlar Church Excavation site has been a neighborhood where both Muslim and nonMuslim citizens lived since the 15th century. Since the 17th century, the population of the neighborhood has become mostly non-Muslims. Since the 18th century, it has been used as a cemetery where the Sinop Greek Orthodox Christian community clergy and members of the public were buried around the monastery, and it continued this function until the first quarter of the 20th century. During the excavations of Balatlar Church, many glass finds belonging to different periods such as Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman were found. Among these finds, glass bracelets dating to the Ottoman Period have an important place. These bracelets, most of which are grave finds, were produced with hot glass making techniques. They were made by shaping the glass, which is stretched into a strip and stretched while hot, to form a ring and pressing the end parts with a tool. They are produced in 6 different types: prunt-decorated bracelets, eye-bead-decorated bracelets, wave-decorated bracelets, spiral band bracelets, twisted bracelets and plain, undecorated bracelets. Plain bracelets are also divided into 4 groups as round, triangular, rectangular and D-sectioned. These bracelets, ranging in diameter from 4 cm to 12 cm and produced in a variety of colors such as opaque and transparent; blue, green, yellow, white and colorless are made for both children and adults.
