Özet Görsel sanatlar eğitiminde genel olarak, toplumların sanat kültürünün oluşturulması, geliştirilmesi ve çağdaş sanat düzeyinde sanat zevkinin yaygınlaştırılması hedeflenmektedir. Bu hedefin gerçekleştirilmesi yönünde, okulöncesinden yüksek öğrenim sonuna kadar eğitimin her aşamasında, görsel sanatlar dersine yönelik tüm etkenlerde amaç; öğrencilerin yeteneklerini, tasarım becerilerini ve yaratıcılıklarını artırarak, sanatsal gelişimlerini sağlamaktır. Örgün eğitimin temeli olan okulöncesi ve ilköğretim döneminde, görsel sanatlar ders ve etkinliklerinin en önemlisi tasarım'dır. Görsel Sanatlar dersi eğitiminde, çocukların doğal yeteneklerini, en doğru şekilde kullanmalarını ve görsel bir ürün ortaya çıkarmayı sağlamak temel amaçtır. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmede resim öğretmenlerine önemli görev ve sorumluluklar düşmektedir. Bu bağlamda, resim öğretmeni adaylarının gelecekte eğitimlerinden sorumlu oldukları öğrencilere yönelik; görsel yetenek özelliklerinin gelişimi ve sürekliliğini korunması, yöntem ve teknikleri konularında yeterli eğitimden geçirilmeleri ve etkili bir sanat eğitimi hizmeti verebilecek donanıma sahip olmaları, onlara sunulacak nitelikli bir eğitim anlayışıyla sağlanabilir. Bu nedenle, Sanat eğitimiyle bağlantılı lisans programlarının bu açıdan işlevsel olması büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu gerekçeler doğrultusunda araştırmanın amacı, okulöncesi ve ilköğretim döneminde çocuklara yönelik sanat eğitiminin özellikle de görsel sanatların önemini ele alarak değerlendirmek ve önerilerde bulunmaktır.
