EXAMINING THE PHUBBING ATTITUDES OF INDIVIDUALS

Today, the common use of the digital/ technological devices and the technology affects dramatically daily habits of people and social interactions. Phubbing, which is revealed in modern era/ in our era and has just to be examined, nomophobia, digital and internet addiction are some of them. The life quality of these kind of addicted people and face-to-face human relations are negatively affected. Phubbing is a kind of human behavior that interrupts communication between people because of the fact that people ignore others around them by focusing on their smart phones when they need to communicate face-to-face. The fear of missing out (FoMo) can be defined as the feeling of being deprived of other people’s experiences, which can especially increase with social media use. Social connectedness is a term related to the sense of belonging and trust in the social environment of the people. The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of the psychosocial factors like social connectedness and FoMo on sociotelism, one of the negative behaviors related to technology. The unique value of the research is that it examines the effects of digitalization on individuals’ behaviors by testing them on a large sample under the various factors. In this research, a questionnaire will be generated using various scales developed by different researchers before. By analyzing the answers of the participants, it is aimed to determine which factors affect the sociotelism. In this framework, the relationship between characteristics personality of people, level of social connectedness and attitude of FoMo will be examined in detail. By this way, it is expected to be contributed to social and individual term by finding out solutions. From a theoretical perspective, the study aims to present a new perspective to the literature by revealing the relationships between the concepts of social connectedness, FoMO, and one of the behaviors being common today, such as sociotelism. From a practical perspective, the planned findings will help understand the negative consequences of digital addiction and social media use. It is also expected that this will contribute to the development of strategies for individuals to prevent or reduce these behaviors.
