Özet:
(AI):
Medicinal plants have been a component of folk remedies globally. The Balkans also showcase evidence of medicinal plant usage among its people. Albania exhibits significant floral diversity despite its small area, hosting over 3,630 species across 960 genera and 175 families. Approximately 250 species of these plants are wild-harvested for their medicinal and aromatic properties. Hypericum perforatum L. (St. John's wort) is a prominent medicinal plant esteemed for its unique chemical composition and pharmacological applications. H. perforatum L. has been used since antiquity mainly for external use but has become increasingly popular in the last decades for the treatment of mild to moderate depression. In traditional Albanian medicine, St. John's wort aqueous extractive solution is widely used in the treatment of inflammation of the mucous membranes and gastrointestinal ulceration, while oil extractive is used in the treatment of various wounds and burns. Plant samples were gathered from two regions with contrasting geographic characteristics. The chemical composition of flower and leaf polar extracts has been analyzed. Liquid Chromatography with High Performance and a Diode Array Detector (HPLC-PDA) was utilized to analyze the phenolic composition. Compounds were identified based on their retention times at 230 nm. The analysis revealed gallic acid, catechin, epicatechin, hyperoside, quercetin, and hyperforin within the 0.5-10 mg/L range. Our findings distinguished extracts from two geographical regions, highlighting the use of principal component and cluster analysis in computational analysis.
