Unemployment is one of the biggest obstacles to increasing the welfare and development levels of societies. In societies where unemployment is widespread, economic problems come to the fore. In addition to economic problems, unemployment affects the life of the unemployed individual as a whole. It is clear that young people, who constitute a high proportion of the population in Turkey, and their unemployment will cause many social problems both when they are young and in the future. The issue of youth unemployment has been on the agenda of both theoreticians and policymakers in Turkey for a long time. This study presents data on the general proportion of the youth population (male and female) in Turkey, their distribution by provinces and their unemployment rates. The data in this study were created within the scope of secondary data on TurkStat regional statistics data page. The aim of the study is to compare youth unemployment rates in Turkey with general unemployment rates and to discuss the causes, consequences and effects of youth unemployment with the help of literature. According to the findings of the study, the rate of young population is still high in Turkey. The youth population rate in Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia is higher than the general youth population rate. Another prominent finding is that in the last 10 years, unemployment rates of young women have been consistently higher than unemployment rates of young men. In conclusion, in order to reduce youth unemployment rates in Turkey, employment opportunities for young people need to be increased. Empowering young people in areas such as career guidance and capacity-building at this point will shorten the unemployment process of young people.
